Faithful to the dreamlike quality of her vision, she hopes to avoid the clichés of exoticism in Tokyo. As she did in a recent series on the nude, it is through the dance of the human body that she expresses her surprise and emotion. The language of gesture, perceived as writing, sketches out an indomitable calligraphy. Gladys deciphers the codes of a civilisation that is foreign to her. She strives to identify simple signs: fish in a jar, the pattern of a fabric, the satin of skin.
