I open the door, and he stands in the middle of the room, naked.
“you don’t have to look away,” he says—but I instinctively do.
he says, “I don't mind you watching.”
people don’t mind the quiet presence of my camera, and neither do objects.
the moon, hanging above Mumbai, silently agrees to be observed and photographed—and
so does a tiny fawn from Nara.
mysterious hieroglyphs carved into the back of an unnamed saint in an old french church.
body parts of people and beasts, alongside my own, obey the camera.
while developing, a polaroid undergoes five thousand chemical reactions—
the same number, you might think, as in the human body during connection with another.
it’s not a scientific fact—but who needs facts when we have love, lust, longing, and
intimacy?
i cut open my photos, give them a nice bath in hot water,
then transfer a thin, translucent layer of the image onto watercolor paper.
the process of making each photo is slow. the outcome is always unpredictable.
these works are as fragile as the moments they depict.
the image cracks. the image flows. the image curls and falls apart.
i carefully pull all parts of it back together—just like myself, after every cracking and
falling-apart moment.
open to a lot—
a deeply personal attempt to understand a realm of beauty, of human connection to oneself,
to others, and to the world.
it is an ongoing investigation of intimacy, vulnerability, and lust—
lust for life, love, and human connection.
